Seattle's Ballard area, home to many Scandinavian immigrants, contains the Nordic Heritage Museum, giving an elaborate, detailed look into the history of these immigrants and their impact on Seattle's culture. Three stories of exhibits contain such fascinating areas as the "Dream of America" dioramas on the struggles and triumphs of immigration in the 1800s and 1900s, and the third floor displays that celebrate the unique heritage of the five countries which make up Scandinavia: Sweden, Finland, Norway, Iceland and Denmark. Set about half a mile inland from the Puget Sound, the museum is in the unique, trendy Ballard neighborhood.
